"My mind"
(oil painting on canvas, 30X40, 2008)
"I am the only person in the world I should like to know thoroughly."
Oscar Wilde
"I know but one freedom and that is the freedom of the mind."
Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Just as Magritte I developed my own set of symbols when I was in my early teens. Back then I was somewhat of a surrealist and a lot of symbols that I came up with traveled from painting to painting. Egyptian cats, Phoenix and the human hearts were almost always present in my art. I abandoned Surrealism in high-school, but lately it started calling me again.
I began working on a series of paintings meant to explain myself... well... to myself. I think there is an art style appropriate for every subject and I think there isn't anything else that explains my mind better than Surrealism. I imagine my mind as a warehouse/library filled with filing cabinets. It's run by a number of well-orginized secretaries that register and file all the information coming in.
There are also numerous secret rooms that serve as hiding places for my spirit. These rooms are formed by the happy memories from my past where I can always find a temporary safe haven when I need to hide from reality. Of course, there are also many forgotten corners filled with boxes containing all the junk I don't use on everyday basis. Fortunately my little secretaries are well trained and can find any forgotten information in the matter of minutes if the occasion calls for it.
