All about Beastie Boy

(Natasha's furry chinchilla great-grandson also known as Beastie)

"Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal. Difficult standards for people to live up to."
Alfred A. Montapert

"The little furry buggers are just deep, deep wells you throw all your emotions into."
Bruce Schimmel

"Nature teaches beasts to know their friends."
William Shakespeare

"To insult someone we call him "bestial." For deliberate cruelty and nature, "human" might be the greater insult."
Isaac Asimov

I’m a proud great-grandmother of my beautiful chinchilla Beastie Boy. Not to sound overly grandmotherly, but he’s a such a good boy; polite, affectionate and lovely all around. He has the softest fur out of all of my chinchillas and his coloring is just gorgeous.

However, Beastie also has the smallest eyes that I’ve ever seen on a chinchilla. He looks like a drunk waking up after the night of heavy boozing. Don't get me wrong, his eyes hardly diminish his ‘adorableness’. They just make him look different from the rest of his family. Beastie looks a lot like his grandmother Boo, but he doesn’t have her strong personality. He takes after his father Bond. He’s super-friendly and loves my cat Tihon despite the fact that Tihon treats him like a toy. When I got Tihon he was smaller than both Biaka and Bond (my oldest chinchillas and Beastie's parents) and Tihon retained his respect for them, because he never realized that he’s now much bigger than both of them put together.

Photo of Natasha's cat Tihon sniffing chinchilla Beastie BoyBeastie on the other hand was born when Tihon was already a mature cat and Tihon played with him and his sister Butler when they were tiny fur balls. While Tihon is very protective of the younger chinchilla generation and even attacked people who tried touching them, he has little respect for the little chins. Whenever Beastie gets on top of something Tihon pokes him until he falls of. However, it doesn’t prevent Beastie from loving Tihon and Beastie constantly comes up to Tihon to kiss him and cuddle. Of course, at other times Beastie also likes to torment the cat by jumping over him and gnawing on his tail. Sometimes, Beastie likes to pull on Tihon's whiskers, which Tihon seems to tolerate rather well. He just closes his eyes and makes a face that says, "I'm really annoyed right now and I hope this will be over soon."

For the most part, Beastie is well-behaved and very affectionate with everybody. He sits in my lap for longer than any other of my chins and if I'm reading a book he doesn't try chewing it like his father does. So far I could only find one negative trait in his personality, which Beastie got from his grandfather - he doesn't like bathing. Chinchillas have to bathe in dust to keep their fur clean and Beastie prefers to ignore his hygiene. I'm not overly concerned since I already know how to deal with it. All I have to do is to stuff him inside his bathhouse (filled with chinchilla dust) and shake the house until the animal inside it looks clean.
