Solutions for personal matters on a global scale

I’m just a simple person who tries to make sense of everything around her. An admirer of Socratic logic I ask a lot of questions and eventually form my opinions based on the answers that make the most sense to me. I believe that logic is universal. It’s like an equation where 2+2 can only equal 4.

When I don’t know how to feel about certain situations I try to find examples in history (or my own life) analogous to a situation at hand and when I apply the best solutions from the past to present I’m usually able to resolve any dilemma. While history provides an abundance of examples that can be applied to our time, I believe that our own life experiences are often well suited for understanding problems faced by the world. Since human nature has been a constant throughout history the same logic that can be applied as solutions to personal matters can also be applied to global issues.

For example: Let’s say there is a very successful young person X working in some office. X is barely out of college, but hard-working and very smart. X is climbing the corporate ladder faster than everybody before him and his older coworker Y is jealous. Y has been working in the same office for a while, but hasn’t accomplished anything near what X had in his short carrier. X is always trying to be nice to Y and helps him when Y needs help. However, Y still considers X an arrogant young punk, because X is not ashamed, but rather proud of his success. There is also a person Z working in the mailroom in the same office. Z is hardly educated and even though he should be happy that he has a job because of people like X and Y he still dislikes them because he feels that people like X and Y don’t deserve what they have and he can’t understand why even though he has worked hard his whole life he’s can’t be as successful. Even though Z’s dislike of X and Y is hardly rational it is how he feels and that can’t be helped. The whole situation with these 3 people is pretty ordinary. It might not be ideal, but it can be easily explained because human nature is not perfect and all of us have felt some negative emotions at one point or another.

Now substitute X for the United States, Y for some European country and Z for some third world country. The reason why some people in the two latter countries don’t like us stays the same. It’s just human nature and there is no reason for Americans to worry about being liked. One can bend over backwards and still be disliked for some pretty irrational reason…
