Sad redheaded doll
"I think girls have more active imaginations than boys do when it comes to play. If girls have a button on their doll and can feel an engine inside it, that takes away from their ability to imagine."
David Riley
"The simplest toy, one which even the youngest child can operate, is called a grandparent."
Sam Levenson
"Sadness is but a wall between two gardens."
Kahlil Gibran
The sad looking doll on your right was made while I was still in my 'embroidering' period. After I came to the States I went nuts embroidering for about a year. I guess lack of friends and fun things to do made embroidery look like a very appealing activity. Otherwise, I have no logical explanation for spending days creating something that would take me hours to paint, but for one reason or another I ended up embroidering quite a few pillows as well as a few dolls' faces.
For this particular doll I embroidered the face after I finished the toy, so in a way her hair and her outfit dictated her facial expression. The doll's outfit was made out of a sleeve of an old jacket. I used knitting yarns of two different colors for the hair. This doll is another example that anything can be made out of fabric sewn into a tube shape. Her body as well as her outfits consists of sewn-up rolls of fabric.
