"The artist is the confidant of nature, flowers carry on dialogues with him through the graceful bending of their stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms. Every flower has a cordial word which nature directs towards him."
Auguste Rodin
For a while I became very interested in painting wooden objects. I painted bird-houses, chairs, tables and jewelry boxes. The 'tulip' box was one of my favorites because I really like tulips.
To start with, I've covered the whole box in gold acrylic paint. Then I used two shades of olive green to paint over the gold and gently rubbed some of the paint off to make the gold peak through the top layers. I added folk style tulips on every side of the box. When it was dry I 'antiqued' the box by using mahogany stain to make it appear old.
